Wedding favours are often a pain point for couples as there are many various options out there for couples to choose from. I feel that we've all gone to a wedding where we thought "what on earth am I going to do with this?". This is often because the favour is generic, not well thought out, or doesn't speak to the personality of the couple. Too often, wedding favours are received only to serve as a dust collector or item that gets thrown out. For us a wedding favour is an opportunity to showcase your character, be thoughtful and also, bring joy to your guests who have come to your wedding day. This is why we've compiled a list of our favourite practical wedding favours for you to consider en route your journey down the aisle.
1. Luggage Tags
We are obsessed with the idea of luggage tags for wedding favours, especially for a destination wedding. Luggage tags are items that are not often replaced and used for many years; not to mention, many luggage tags are generic in their design. A luggage tag is a great way to leave a message as a couple and, provide a favour your guest can use on all their adventures in the future. We planned an engagement party in 2018 and fell in love with the offerings of Curry's Leather.
2. Soaps
One of our favourite practical favours is soaps. Soaps will always be used and consumed and, they can also be customized to reflect any event style. You can take your customization up a notch by creating a customized stamp with your monogram or graphic. You can choose from an array of soap types and incorporate various different colours as well. Photographed below is a custom soap favour made by Soma Botanicals for an ethereal seaside wedding in Greece made with extra virgin olive oil and vanilla extract.
3. Bath Salts
Similar to soaps, bath salts are incredibly practical and offer a moment of relaxation to your guest after the big day is over. Like soaps, bath salts can be customized to reflect your colour palette and are also considerably low in cost making them a top choice for practical and budget conscious couples. We love this presentation of bath salt in a glass tube, and this can be found at Grace & Bloom along with an array of other bath products.
4. Plants
Succulents and plants can help love grow and are also wonderful additions to any space in your guests' homes. Depending on the type of plant, guests can regrow the plant annually, repot it or maintain the plant all year round. There are many different types of seeds you can gift in a favour but, if you prefer something low maintenance and equally gorgeous, then a mini-succulent will always be our go-to. Below are small mini-succulents from Anthi Floral captured amongst lush greenery and a winter colour palette.
5. Coasters
A household item that doubles as a practical favour for your guests are coasters. Coasters, similar to luggage tags are not replaced often and will be used for a long time. As with many favours they can be customized, and while we wouldn't recommend customizing the coaster itself, you can certainly customize the packaging to reflect your wedding theme and aesthetic. A fun twist on the coaster idea is to double them as name cards at your tables allowing each guest to receive their own customized favour from your big day. We absolutely adore these coasters from Style Box on Etsy for their elegance and versatility.
6. Candles
In case you haven't noticed, we're obsessed with the idea of home items doubling for favours because they are practical and they will be used by your guests. Candles can be customized to reflect not only your aesthetic but the scent you wish to have your guests remember or you can keep them neutral - the choice is yours. Additionally, depending on the type of candle container your guests could repurpose the container for decorative or storage purposes. These mini-candles in jar from The Hobbyist Box could be used as storage for bath salt, candies or any other small item.
7. Bottle Openers
This one is a tough one. I say this because there are many bottle openers on the favour market and many times they can be cheesy but, a bottle opener can absolutely add elegance and character if the correct one is selected. Additionally, a bottle opener is another one of those items at home that are not replaced often and will be used for a long time. Bottle openers are practical and depending on the type of bottle opener, it can also double up as a seating card to guide your guests to their seats. We adore the idea of a vintage key bottle opener that looks like its straight out of a fairytale; there are many options to choose from in array of colours.
8. Keychains
Key chains are similar to bottle openers in the sense that there is a wide variety to choose from and we often see a bunch that aren't too cute. We recently had a couple incorporate their culture into a customized keychain and the result was not only gorgeous but practical (pictured below). If you speak to local jeweller they are likely able to create a gorgeous keychain for you in the colour you want and also incorporate various charms that will reflect your personality.Guests can use this favour everyday once they need a new keychain and often times, our keychains are overlooked and need a glamorous update.
9. Aromatic Sacket
How cute are these bundles?! We love the idea of giving your guests something that they cane use in their homes. Aromatic sackets come in all sorts of scents with dried florals and herbs. These sackets can be used as a natural alternative to air fresheners and are commonly kept in drawers to keep clothes smelling fresh. You can customize the material to reflect your aesthetic and we love the idea of adding the element of scent to your big day.
10.Trinket Dish
Trinket dishes are one of our favourites because of how under estimated it is as a favour for guests. A trinket dish is an item that is versatile that can be used for jewellery, keys, pins or smaller items that don't necessarily have a permanent place in a home. You can customize the dish to reflect the aesthetic of your wedding day with an array of effects, pain and styles. We love simplicity and clean colour combinations that can match with any wedding colour palette.
Wedding favours truly can add a deeper dimension through touch, smell and sight to your special day when they are thoughtful, elegant, representative of your character and practical. Wedding favours are a chance for your guests to remember you once the wedding day has come and gone and it's also an opportunity to show your thoughtfulness as a host. The truth is, this list could go on forever but, I hope you've been able to gain some perspective and inspiration on considering a wedding favour that, won't only look gorgeous but, will be practical to your guests and, remembered for years to come!
Sending you all light and love,
Anastasia
